The Author Hotline
is
being developed by CW4K, or Creative Writing 4 Kids. They are the company behind a website that enables children to create and publish their own stories online. In its first year it has signed up over 2000 members and has been enthusiastically received by children, parents and teachers. In fact the response has been so encouraging that they are planning a huge expansion of its services. Embedding The Author Hotline into the site is part of that expansion...

Q: What did you want to be when you were a child?
A Detective (a P.I. like Jim Rockford, Magnum, Heart to heart... oh I could go on.) or an Artist. I was always drawing and making. I used to have a gallery of my work (arranged beautifully on the 1960's patterned carpet) and I would charge my brother entry!
Q: What do you do as a hobby?
Printmaking
Q: What is your most treasured possession?
My children
Q: What strange habits do you have?
Couldn't possibly say!
Q: What’s your favourite food?
Anything made of potatoes.
Q: Do you feel younger or older than your current age?
Usually ALOT younger but occasionally on bad days very old
Q: What is the best advice anyone has ever given you?
Do not learn to type or you'll end up as a secretary!
Q: What would you most like to change about yourself?
Better temper and more money.
Q: What were you like at school?
I was a bit invisible. I think apart from my art teacher I wouldn't be remembered. I found school boring. I giggled a lot and was always day dreaming. I left school at 16 for Art College..far more exciting.
Q: How long have you been a writer?
My first book came out 1996
Q: Where do you do your writing?
Everywhere
Q: What are the best and worst things about being an author?
I feel I'm always working, so its a seamless mix of practicalities and creating. I feel so fortunate to make a living from what I love. I find switching from artist/illustrator/writer to Mum each day hard at times, especially when I'm really into my work.
Q: What book do you wish you had written?
Any by Dr Zuess
Q: What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
Don't make excuses for not getting on with it and learn to face rejection. Always re-do your work until your totally satisfied-perhaps put it away for a couple of weeks and re-check it again, then.
