The Author Hotline
is
being developed by CW4K, or Creative Writing 4 Kids. They are the company behind a website that enables children to create and publish their own stories online. In its first year it has signed up over 2000 members and has been enthusiastically received by children, parents and teachers. In fact the response has been so encouraging that they are planning a huge expansion of its services. Embedding The Author Hotline into the site is part of that expansion...

I have been writing stories since I was about 8 years old, I think my first story was called 'Ghost Stallion', I designed the cover and did all the illustrations, but I wrote my first 'proper' story about 18 years ago. It has never been published! Since then I have been perfecting my craft and my first book has just been published by Korea Hemingway.
Q: Was there a specific moment in your life when you decide to become a writer?
Yes I do remember the specific moment, it was a very wet Sunday afternoon about 18 years ago. I was pretty much penniless, and there was not much to do. I wrote a story about a fox and a badger.
Q: What was your favourite book as a child?
I was always reading, I was never without a book on the go. My favourites were Heidi by Joanna Spyri and Anna Sewell's Black Beauty.
Q: What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
Keep a note book and/or sketch book and observe everyday events/happenings characters, these notes will always come in useful for ideas, characters and plots. Know your market, your intended audience. Write a little every day. Believe in yourself.
