being developed by CW4K, or Creative Writing 4 Kids. They are the company behind a website that enables children to create and publish their own stories online. In its first year it has signed up over 2000 members and has been enthusiastically received by children, parents and teachers. In fact the response has been so encouraging that they are planning a huge expansion of its services. Embedding The Author Hotline into the site is part of that expansion...

There was. It was a hot summer's day and I suddenly began to write about a character far away in Africa. You could say he came alive for me.

Best: Writing about my own characters, my own worlds. It's just great fun. Worst: Irregular income.
Q: Where do you get your greatest ideas from?
I wish I knew the answer. I'd make a fortune.
Q: Which of your own characters do you most identify with?
None really. They're all so different, from ghosts to Egyptian queens. I suppose the most like me would be Mouse in my latest board book CHEESE HUNT, (Caterpillar Books) but only because I love cheese.
