The Author Hotline
is
being developed by CW4K, or Creative Writing 4 Kids. They are the company behind a website that enables children to create and publish their own stories online. In its first year it has signed up over 2000 members and has been enthusiastically received by children, parents and teachers. In fact the response has been so encouraging that they are planning a huge expansion of its services. Embedding The Author Hotline into the site is part of that expansion...

I loved school,I enjoyed most lessons except sports because I was so terrible at it.In fact I even did latin to get out of doing P.E.(it was worth it!)

an artist
Q: When did you last have a really good laugh?
Today
Q: What’s your favourite food?
I am a connoisseur of toast, with various toppings, like pesto, a current favourite. My dad thought I lived only on toast while I was away at college. And tomatoes- for some reason they make me happy.
Q: What quality do you most admire in a person?
Warmth. It makes the world a much nicer place.
Q: What has life taught you?
Don't look down.

darling
Q: What is your most treasured possession?
my Lamy propelling pencil. I feel very unsettled if I can't find it
Q: How long have you been a writer?
My first book was published in 2002 but I have always enjoyed writing in different forms since my childhood - stories, poems, letters (does anyone write letters now?) Now it is notes, lists, emails and hopefully a new book soon!
Q: Where do you do your writing?
In my head at first, then jottings in notebooks. The ideas can lie hidden in there for ages until I rediscover them and work on them a bit more.Trains and cafes are good places to write I think - I can blot out my surroundings more easily somehow.Random thoughts can appear at any moment though- I had the idea for Pirate Jam in the supermarket. I do my artwork in a studio at the top of my house, I can hear seagulls dancing on the roof.
Q: Where do you get your greatest ideas from?
Daydreaming, my family and things that surround us.
Q: What book do you wish you had written?
The Cat In The Hat, I love the rhythm of Dr Seuss's books.
Q: What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
Just write.
Q: What was your favourite book as a child?
I think Pippi Longstocking, she was such a feisty character and after all she was the strongest girl in the world...
