Q: What did you want to be when you were a child?
I always wanted to be an underwater arechaeologist. But I was rubbish at swimming.
Q: Which three words describe you best?
Reformed English Teacher.
Q: What is your favourite word?
Certainly.
Q: What do you do as a hobby?
I like running. I've run a few marathons and like to keep fit. I also play the mandolin in various ceilidh bands around the North West. Oh, and I like reading and writing of course!
Q: Where do you do your writing?
All over the place, in cars, in the kitchen, in the garden (when it's sunny), anywhere that is warm, cosy and quiet.
Q: Where do you get your greatest ideas from?
Everywhere. Music, things people say, History programmes, the news, other stories.
Q: What do you do to combat “writers’ block”?
Running helps me to think ideas through. Sometimes I just write anyway and see what happens. Other times I do something else and wait for the ideas to sneak back.
Q: What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
Write for fun. Write your story. Don't try and copy anyone else because they've sold lots of books.
