being developed by CW4K, or Creative Writing 4 Kids. They are the company behind a website that enables children to create and publish their own stories online. In its first year it has signed up over 2000 members and has been enthusiastically received by children, parents and teachers. In fact the response has been so encouraging that they are planning a huge expansion of its services. Embedding The Author Hotline into the site is part of that expansion...

Q: What did you want to be when you were a child?
I mostly wanted to be a grown up so I could stay up as late as I liked. ow I am a grown up, I wish I could go to bed earlier!
Q: Which three words describe you best?
Determined, creative, perfectionist!
Q: What is your favourite word?
Lollygagging, whis is what you do when you don't want to do anything!
Q: What has life taught you?
That I shouldn't take life to seriously! No one gets out alive!
Q: What are you afraid of?
Spiders!
Q: What is your most treasured possession?
Well, they aren't possessions, but what I treasure the most is my family.
Q: What do you do as a hobby?
I don't get very much time to do hobbies because when I am not illustrating I am looking after my 4 daughters. We live in Cornwall, a few miles from the beach, so we try to spend a lot of time there and we have an allotment too, but we don't really spend that much time there. I also crochet cupcakes because I LOVE cupcakes but I don't like to eat them! To keep fit I do YOGA.
Q: What strange habits do you have?
When I have to empty the dishwasher I put the kettle on and race it - I have to empty the dishwasher before the kettle boils. Then I reward myself with a cup of tea! I also cannot sit and read a magazine until I have the whole house tidy - I think that is a Mum thing!
Q: What’s your favourite food?
Roast peppers, mushrooms and courgettes with feta cheese - yum!
Q: What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?
I would love to be a Yoga teacher or a Nutritionist.
Q: Do you feel younger or older than your current age?
Much, much younger! My eldest daughter is 14 and sometimes I can still feel that young too!
Q: If you could meet one person, dead or alive, who would it be?
My Grandfather on my Dad's side of the family - I only just recently saw a photo of him and I just wished I had got the opportunity to meet him. He died when my Dad was 6.
Q: What quality do you most admire in a person?
Honesty, integrity and humour.
Q: What is the best advice anyone has ever given you?
It's a quote I read and it is the code I now live by "You can't change the direction of the wind, but you can adjust your sails"
Q: What would you most like to change about yourself?
I wish I could relax more, the second I sit still I think of something else I want to achieve!
Q: What were you like at school?
A daydreamer! I came alive in art lessons though!
Q: What makes you cringe?
A messy room!
Q: When did you last have a really good laugh?
When I installed the Farting app on my iPhone. So basic but so very funny!
