being developed by CW4K, or Creative Writing 4 Kids. They are the company behind a website that enables children to create and publish their own stories online. In its first year it has signed up over 2000 members and has been enthusiastically received by children, parents and teachers. In fact the response has been so encouraging that they are planning a huge expansion of its services. Embedding The Author Hotline into the site is part of that expansion...

Q: What were you like at school?
Well-behaved but quite shy!
Q: What did you want to be when you were a child?
A writer
Q: When did you last have a really good laugh?
I try and laugh every day. My wife and I love comedy shows and the antics of our cats regularly make us laugh.
Q: What is your most treasured possession?
My wife (though she isn't a possession!) and our beautiful six cats
Q: What do you do as a hobby?
Reading, playing video games, writing, watching films, blogging, playing with my cats

Lasagne
Q: What do you day dream about?
Having more time to write!
Q: What is the most interesting place you have ever visited?
I went to Australia and New Zealand a few years ago and that was an amazing trip but my honeymoon in Cologne, Germany was fantastic. There were so many interesting museums and I loved the food.
Q: What is the best advice anyone has ever given you?
To keep writing
Q: What would you most like to change about yourself?
To have more confidence
Q: How long have you been a writer?
About 13 years - most of that was spent creating my fantasy world of Elenchera
Q: Where do you do your writing?
In the living room, surrounded by cats with some great music in the background
Q: What do you do to combat “writers’ block”?
I'm constantly talking through my ideas with Donna, my wife, and I find that this helps to keep things flowing.
Q: What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
Find an honest critic: it's great to hear that your work is 'perfect' but in the long run it doesn't help.
