being developed by CW4K, or Creative Writing 4 Kids. They are the company behind a website that enables children to create and publish their own stories online. In its first year it has signed up over 2000 members and has been enthusiastically received by children, parents and teachers. In fact the response has been so encouraging that they are planning a huge expansion of its services. Embedding The Author Hotline into the site is part of that expansion...

Q: What were you like at school?
Invisible.
Q: What are you afraid of?
Anything scaly. Especially the wobbly bit under a turkey's chin ................................................................................................................................................................................................. sorry I fainted at the thought of it!

Having time to daydream!
Q: What is your most treasured possession?
The measuring stick on my kitchen door frame that has recorded the heights of all my family for over twenty years. sadly I am now the shortest. even standing on tiptoe. in three pairs of socks.
Q: What do you do as a hobby?
doodle and scribble and look at other peoples doodles and scribbles.
Q: What’s your favourite food?
curry. especially curried lentils. and a dash of lime pickle. especially cold for breakfast.
Q: What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?
I've been so many things already... nurse, silkscreen printer, mural artist, interior designer, print buyer, publisher, gardener, cleaner, waitress, shop assistant, receptionist, barmaid, professional washer-upper... but still my list is endless for what i'd like to be: a florist in amsterdam, a chocolate maker in paris, an artist in tokyo, a fashion designer in london, an architect in barcelona, an art gallery owner in mumbai, sell retro and vintage goodies in new york, and best of all to own my own little shop selling everything i've made from lemon jellies and chocolate cakes to paintings and and bags and dresses and cushions and jewellery........................

people who don't try to be what they think others want. stay true to yourself (unless you're really horrid!)

Q: How long have you been a writer?
since i was seven. i spent hours writing poetry. my dad's boss loved my poems and sent me poems of his own. we sent poetry back and forth for years
Q: Where do you do your writing?
in a lean-to greenhouse attached to the back of the house that has slowly been insulated and now even posesses a radiator. still chilly though and needs a hot water bottle in winter or my fingers freeze up
Q: What are the best and worst things about being an author?
the best thing about being an author is meeting the children who love your books and receiving their thoughts and correspondence. it also makes washing up more fun as your mind can wander into different places
