Authors Hotline - Where authors and their readers connect

The Author Hotline

is being developed by CW4K, or Creative Writing 4 Kids. They are the company behind a website that enables children to create and publish their own stories online. In its first year it has signed up over 2000 members and has been enthusiastically received by children, parents and teachers. In fact the response has been so encouraging that they are planning a huge expansion of its services. Embedding The Author Hotline into the site is part of that expansion...

Q: What were you like at school?

I loved school but I hated school rules so I sneaked round them whenever I could get away with it. I loved English but because I was dyslexic my spelling was dreedfull. Or is that dredful. or perhaps dreadful?

Q: What did you want to be when you were a child?

I wanted to be an engineer , or an architect, or to work in the Forestry Commission, but in those far off days girls were not encouraged to do those sorts of jobs

Q: Which three words describe you best?

I have no idea, ask my friends but not when I'm around to hear their answers.

Q: What makes you cringe?

Q: What are you afraid of?

Deep water, electricity, snakes, the edge of cliffs, hot fat, getting too old,the dark, losing my car keys , listen, do you have twenty minutes because I could go on like this for a long time.

Q: What is your most treasured possession?

My children, and my grandchildren.

Q: What do you do as a hobby?

I paint big pictures and little pictures of hills and woods, and flowers and people with no clothes on.

Q: What strange habits do you have?

Come on! Do you expect me to tell you that.

Q: What’s your favourite food?

Q: What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?

I would like to be the pilot which directs boats down the Humber Estuary, so that they do not run aground on a mudbank.

Q: Do you feel younger or older than your current age?

I have always felt that I was 14years old.

Q: What would you most like to change about yourself?

It would be wonderful to be able to go to a foreign country and to be able to pick up the language in just a few days. I can not speak French after having tried to do so for 50 years

Q: What has life taught you?

Life has taught me that I just might be wrong.
