The Author Hotline
is
being developed by CW4K, or Creative Writing 4 Kids. They are the company behind a website that enables children to create and publish their own stories online. In its first year it has signed up over 2000 members and has been enthusiastically received by children, parents and teachers. In fact the response has been so encouraging that they are planning a huge expansion of its services. Embedding The Author Hotline into the site is part of that expansion...

Q: What were you like at school?
A bit too brainy for my own good. Now I'm not such a clever clogs and I'm much happier.
Q: Which three words describe you best?
'I am very ...' Oops! That's my three words!
Q: What is your favourite word?
Hey! I'm a writer. I have lots of fave words. Can I choose two? Ok, there's 'lugubrious' and 'satsuma'. I get really lugubrious when I don't eat satsumas!
Q: What are you afraid of?
Anything fat and hairy that has more than two legs!
Q: How long have you been a writer?
About ten years.
Q: Where do you do your writing?
Anywhere. You'll often see me scribbling at street corners until the police come and carry me off.
Q: Where do you get your greatest ideas from?
I wish I knew. They just seem to pop into my head like lemon sherbet.
Q: Which of your own characters do you most identify with?
The Newt in the Suit. He always gets to do the things I never did as a child.
Q: What was your favourite book as a child?
The Lord of the Rings. I remember being glued to my Gran's couch for about three days while I got through all 900 pages. She had to bring me my meals and snacks and everything. It was great!
Q: What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
Always carry round a notebook, and whenever something pops into your head (however silly) just write it down. Also, read lots and lots of books!
